I was standing at the bookshelf this morning to get a Bible handbook. A book fell out of the shelf onto me. Any book could have fallen, but the only one that fell was “Every Woman’s Battle”. I studied it a couple of years ago and forgot about it. It focuses on emotional fulfillment – a battle for most women (including me). I flipped through the pages and written on page 85 was Isaiah 26:3 “He will keep me in perfect peace all those who trust in Him, whose thoughts turn often to the Lord!”
It could say peace without the word “perfect”. This is astounding! Perfect peace! Later in that verse it states “He trusts in you”. What? God trusts me?
While studying my Bible today I read Psalm 16:2 “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you” and v. 8 “I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken, Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.”
Whoa! “secure” I have security in God. (The God, the only God.)
v. 11 “You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy;”
God makes known for us our path, our purpose, our lives. Not parents, not advisors, not preachers, not spouses, not friends, not teachers, not fans.
When we follow God’s plan we have “fullness” of joy. Not some, not sometimes – fullness of joy. This does not mean we will feel good all the time. It means we will have a joy and hope no matter what. No matter what –but only when we follow God’s plan.
This reminds me of a verse we read Sunday, John 15:5b, Jesus states, “for apart from Me you can do nothing”.
Again, the words that are chosen….nothing. Nothing we do on our own brings security, or joy, or perfect peace.
C.S. Lewis states “You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronising nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. he did not intend to.”
“This God His way is perfect” Psalm 18:3
Whatever your battle(s), the answer….God.
