Girls, You Want Someone…

You never want to be the name written in chalk on the sidewalk

First rain that falls, you are washed away and feel at fault

You never want to be someone’s second choice

The moment will come when you realize, you’ve completely lost your voice

You never want to be a number on someone’s hand

As soon as Mama cries dinner, you get washed like a frying pan

You never want to be the understudy who has such hope

The final curtain closes, and all you got to do was pull the rope

You never want to be a dolly on a shelf

One day you look in the mirror and can’t see yourself

You never want to be a doormat for someone’s big dirty feet

When someone good comes along, you are too downtrodden to get up and greet

You never want to be told to wait in line

Before you know it, you go to bed each night cryin’

You never want to be told lies, because the truth would hurt too bad

Before you know it the emotion you felt is no longer glad, but oh so sad

You never want to be someone’s marionette on a string

Before you know it, you realize all he wanted was a fling

You never want to be told someone is crazy about you, unless it’s true

Before you know it, they are saying the same thing to another one or maybe two

You never want to be manipulated, mistreated, or used

Before you know it they have fooled you, and you never saw the clues

You want someone who is loving to you in word and deed

You want someone who is filled with joy at meeting your needs

You want someone who exudes peace even during a storm

You want someone who is patient in word and in form

You want someone who is kind and never rude

You want someone who is good and never crude

You want someone who is faithful and doesn’t lie or sneak

You want someone who is gentle and your heart he wants to keep

You want someone who has self-control when temptation is near

You want someone who loves you like Jesus and never hesitates to care

You want someone who never writes your name in the sand

Because he writes your name in the stars, therefore you are certain where you stand.

  1. Knowing the author makes this poem very powerful and heart-felt!!! Write, write, write your heart. Thank you for being a very important, supportive, heart-felt, strong, sensitive best of the best friend and my sister.
